Message from the elders November/ December 2023

“So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to Him.  Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to Him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship.  Do not change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to Him and what is perfect.”    Romans 12:1-2

Just a glance out the window is enough to confirm that Fall is in full swing, soon to become winter.  For those who enjoy the cooler weather, it’s a welcome change; but for those who are happiest when it’s sunny and hot, there’s a bit of sadness.  We are feeling something similar to that here at Pomeroy Christian Church as we also step into a new season as a church family.  We are feeling some sadness as we transition to something new and different. But, there is also much to look forward to in the weeks ahead as we welcome some brothers and sisters from the mission field to speak, and prepare for the advent season. God is graciously meeting our needs, and we wanted to share with you what the pulpit supply schedule will be through this month.

Derek Helt, who is a Pomeroy native, and his wife Pam will be visiting on Nov. 5th.  Derek and Pam serve Agape International Mission (AIM) in Svey Pak, Cambodia and are currently on furlough.  Derek will bring the message in worship service and be available to visit and answer questions afterward.

Matt and Jan King who serve in Kenya, Africa at the Rift Valley Academy, are also on furlough, and will be filling the pulpit Sunday, Nov. 12th, 19th & 26th.

Pomeroy First Christian Church supports both of these missions, and it is a true blessing to have each of them speaking to us this month.

The Adult Sunday School class will continue to meet in the Fellowship Hall and will be utilizing a study series in the book of Mark from Right Now Media, with Kelly Bagley leading the class.  All other Sunday School classes, from pre-K through Young Adult, will also meet regularly at 9:00 a.m., following Sunday School opening still at 8:45 a.m.  All are welcome to attend.

“We announce to you what we have seen and heard, because we want you also to have fellowship with us.  Our fellowship is with God the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.  If we live in the light, as God is in the light, we can share fellowship with each other. Then the blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from every sin.”    1 John 1:3,7
