MINISTRIES: Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told his disciples—that includes us!—to go out and make other disciples in every nation.  We take that Great Commission to heart here at PCC, and one of our most important values is our mission to the world.  Our mission-minded culture begins right here in our church, extends into our community and reaches as far out into the world as Phnom Penh, Cambodia!  Our members are involved in a variety of missions and outreach ministries, from supporting our local school district weekend meal Backpack Program to filling those beautiful bright boxes and stacking them HIGH for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child each year.  Wanna help?  Well, c’mon, it’s easy….just start here:

Missions Outreach:  We have a very active and joyful Missions Committee here at PCC that is supported and funded by our board and membership. Through the Missions Committee’s work, our church is able to love up on people in countries all over the world, from Mexico to Montana, from Central America to Central Washington, from Asia to Africa, our church supports 15 missions.  There’s always room for another set of hands and a heart for missions!  Maybe your heart is feeling that little tug….

Greetings and Fellowship:  We know the importance of and value in a heartfelt “Welcome!” when people walk through the front doors at PCC, and we definitely have a reputation for being one of the friendliest places in town!  The second greatest commandment our Savior gave us was to love those around us as we love ourselves, and that’s something we put feet (and hands!) to here at PCC! Each Sunday, members and visitors alike will find a warm welcome at the front door and good conversation and coffee after service.  Just one of the many ways we fulfill our mission to love people….maybe this is your gift, too!

Music and Worship:   We LOVE to make music here at PCC!  Whether through heart-piercing classic hymns or more contemporary soul deep love songs to Jesus, we bring a deeply meaningful, Spirit-led, beautiful sacrifice of praise to our Lord every week.  Piano, guitar, keyboard, violin and vocals contribute to our worship on Sunday mornings, with occasional specials by the worship team, members or guests.  We love a good musical offering, whether it’s Cowboy Church Sunday or Contemporary Worship Sunday, the sanctuary is filled with praises to our Abba Father and His Son, our Savior, Jesus!  Maybe you too can make a joyful noise….

Media and Technology:   We may live in a quiet little corner of God’s glorious creation, but we’re no dummies!  We know what an exciting time it is to be in Kingdom work—with a click of the “send” or “post” button, we can power God’s word out into the cybersphere to be delivered into homes and hearts all over the world!  Email, social media, power point, sound technology, downloads, uploads, publisher, video player, and so many more apps, programs and techno-tools make it possible for us here at PCC to share our love of God and love for people farther than just our sanctuary!  Our tech and media teams keep us plugged in and posted each week.  Maybe a click, swipe or tap is your favorite way to communicate too….

Christian Education:  Jesus loves the little children…and so do we! Each week our little ones can experience God and His love through nursery,  Sunday School classes and Children’s Church.  And it doesn’t stop at the littles!  Fall, Winter and Spring, we have classes for all ages, from pre-k to Senior Adult, centered around God’s word and His work in our lives!  During the summer break from these classes, we roll out our favorite community outreach, Vacation Bible School for one week in late June.  As a collaborative activity with other churches in town, we do an evening VBS, offering dinner, songs, Bible stories, puppet shows, science and craft activities, snacks and games.  It’s always a huge success and we get the blessing of seeing our littles praising God and drawing close to Him through all the fun.  Maybe your joy of the Lord is in teaching, crafting or baking.  At Christmas time we again join in a Community Christmas Program, focusing on the children’s part of it.  From telling the story of Jesus’ birth to singing our favorite Christmas carols, to eating some delicious home baked cookies, it is a wonderful evening from the first to the last.  So many places for many to volunteer for.

Prayer:   We’re not worriers here at Pomeroy Christian Church, we’re WARRIORS! In prayer that is!  We know that we must in all things give thanks and bring our prayers and petitions before the Lord, who graciously invites us to His throne  with confidence that He will hear our praise, our thanks, our confessions and our petitions!  We publish a prayer request list every Sunday in our bulletin, and use a prayer chain via email or phone for urgent needs during the week.  Some Sundays our list of needs seems so very long….but God, in His power and mercy, reveals His work as many share their praises and God-sightings throughout the week!  It is such a sweet time together as a family of God, and a powerful testament that our prayers are vital in our daily efforts to bring healing and Shalom into our broken world.  Maybe you too are a battle seasoned prayer warrior…..

Other Ministry Committees:  Many hands make light work!   So like the writer of Hebrews, we urge our members to consider how we can inspire one another toward showing love through the work we do for our church, and larger community.  Here at PCC, we have a number of committees that fill a host of needs for our building and membership that we hope can provide such opportunities:

*Building and Grounds:  maintenance, repair and improvements to our physical property.

* Evangelism:  speaking Jesus into our community in pointed and meaningful ways

* Budget & Finance Committee:  directed stewardship for our Kingdom work

*Special Dinners & Receptions:  blessing those celebrating or grieving by preparing and serving meals

*Women’s Ministry:  bringing the women of our church together for Study, fellowship or special events

Whether it’s leading worship, teaching the littles, reaching into the community, making repairs, baking cookies, crunching the numbers or reaching across the miles to our brothers and sisters worldwide, there are plentiful opportunities to serve our Lord here at Pomeroy Christian Church!  Are you feeling called yet?
